Hey Comics!
Want to try your hand at live stand up comedy? Hey Bolstad welcomes all comedians but was primarily founded as a venue to allow amateur and up and coming comedians to perform a short set in front of a live audience. We want to give everyone their chance to feel the thrill of performing in front of an audience!
In addition to getting to perform on stage in front of a live audience, each show will also be recorded! The videos will be posted on our YouTube channel so you can share your moment of fame with friends and family!
You can sign up online using the buttons to the right or in person at the door prior to the start of the show. There are a limited number of spaces available per show spread between the online form and in person (at the door), so if the online sign up is full there will usually still be a few open spots available for in person sign ups.
At the moment the show is held on the last Tuesday of the month and in the future we plan on having multiple shows per month. We will also be having one night specials at various locations in the area so watch out for those announcements!
Sign-up Forms
Important Info
The doors open at 6pm for in person sign-ups and if there are more comics than we have room for on that nights show, we will randomly draw names from the in person sign-ups to determine who gets to perform that night (online sign-ups will already have a spot reserved for them).
For those who sign up online, please plan on arriving by 6:45pm to get signed in. The show starts promptly at 7pm.
To give everyone an opportunity to perform we ask that you take at least a 1 show break between sign-ups. So if you perform on Episode 4, you’d skip Episode 5 and can sign up again for Episode 6.
In person sign-ups will give preference to those who haven’t performed before / recently, but everyone is welcome to stop by and if any spaces are still open after the show starts you can sign up to perform, even if you performed at the prior show.
A talent release will need to be completed prior to your performing. You can fill out and bring the release with you or we will have them available at the door.
Videos posted to YouTube may be edited for time and content at the discretion of Hey Bolstad and the Producers. If your performance gets cut out please get in touch and we’ll send you your video.
**If you perform the same or a very similar set at multiple shows, we may not post it to YouTube to avoid having repetitive videos.**

Are there any stage fees?
No! Our intention is to uplift, highlight, and showcase comics of all experience levels and give you not only a stage to perform on but a tonight show experience. We have full stage lighting, great audio, and every show is filmed and put on YouTube for you to share and use to promote yourself.
I really get a free video?
Absolutely! And you are free to use it to promote yourself anywhere you’d like. In addition to posting the full length show on YouTube we also post each comic’s performance individually, making it easier for you to share with friends, family, or with other venues that want to see your work.
Ok, so what's the catch?
There is no catch, except maybe catching your next big break! We are currently funding the show ourselves and through donations, and we intend to seek sponsors and other revenue sources such as ticket sales* and merchandise to help pay for everything.
*For the foreseeable future we won’t be charging for tickets, so tell all your friends and family to come to the show and see you perform for free!
How long do I get to perform?
Each comic will get up to 3 minutes to perform. There is a timer visible from the stage to help you keep track of time and you don’t need to be done at the exact moment time runs out, we just ask that you are wrapping up your last joke as the timer approaches zero. If you go over by more than about 20-30 seconds the band will give you a gentle reminder by way of a “ting” on the cymbal, so if you hear that please wrap up your set.
You also don’t need to fill the entire 3 minutes and may end your set early if you wish.
Are there any restrictions on my material?
While we are an evening show, minors are allowed in the venue so we would prefer that you keep your set at or below a PG-13 level. However, we also don’t want to limit your creative expression so there are currently no restrictions on what you may say at the live show.
Since we film the show and post videos to YouTube there are community standards we have to follow, so we reserve the right to censor portions of your set before posting it online or not posting your set if we feel that would be in the best interest of our show.
Can I be on the show more than once?
Definitely! We love seeing everyone more than once and you are welcome to sign up for shows on a regular basis. There are a few caveats to this though, such as:
Please don’t sign up for two shows in a row. In order to give different comics a chance to perform we ask that you take at least one show off between sign-ups so that others have a chance to get on stage.
Please come prepared with new material. If you perform a similar set to one from a past show, we probably won’t post the video on YouTube.
